Express Police Supply's History
Established in 1995 as a distributor of police equipment, OMB's Express Police Supply has grown to be a premier supplier of equipment for public safety. Initially named OMB Police Supply, we started out with an 88 page black and white catalog mailed to 15,000 prospect names and a 2,500 square foot combination warehouse and retail store and one traveling salesman. Our first inside employee was hired in early 1997.
Our first vendor we signed up with was VH Blackinton badges. Our first sale was for Sirchie fingerprint products to Miami Gardens Police Department in Florida.In 1998, we launched our first website. It was an e-commerce website which was different from the standard static website of the time. Our first product sold online was a replacement bulb for a Scorpion flashlight with an order total of about $10! | Around 2000, we started looking for a new facility. Near Christmas time of that year, we found a 10,000 square foot building that used to be a bank check-clearing center. The seller was motivated and we moved in within two weeks of finding the building - record time! We were so excited and didn't know how we'd ever use up all 10,000 square feet. |  |
 | In 2001 a new entity was formed to concentrate solely on catalog marketing with a strategy and catch phrase of, "Low Prices and Quick Delivery™ ". The concept was simple, provide top-brand products at low prices and ship them very fast. This new venture was named Express Police Supply. Catalog production was ramped up and the new catalog was mailed 12 times a year to 100,000 existing customers and prospect names. Our unique geographic position allowed us to deliver products to customers across the country quicker than our competitors. |
Eventually, the benefit of having a separation of the catalog-only company and the sales company became less beneficial so we merged OMB Police Supply and Express Police Supply into OMB's Express Police Supply. Today, we market under Express Police Supply but people still call us, "OMB".
| Today our company has about 32 employees, 5 outside salesmen and mails hundreds of thousands of catalogs to prospects and existing customers. We have over 61,000 active items (of which about 31,000 are offered online) and 280,000 customer accounts. After moving four times, we operate out of a 40,000 square foot building that includes our 5,000 square foot retail store. In addition, the nation's transportation channels have gotten quicker and quicker. We can now service any continental state in the US with one to three day delivery times - all at a low UPS Ground pricing. |  |
2011 - We are now on our fourth version of our website. Each version is easier to use, and has features centered around our customers' experience. We are proud of the visual display of our new website and, most important, the ability to filter down the offering based on the properties of the product.
Our website has grown considerably both in the number of items we carry and the functionality of the website. Our customers can see items, their stock status and have tracking ability on every step of the order. We are able to process an order from pick, pack and ship within 90 minutes.
